[Jason frowns as he scoops stir fry into his bowl.]

It depends on what sort of mission it is.

( they'd done just fine with the last one after all... in terms of being together that is. )

[Jason shoves a piece of broccoli into his mouth.]

You can’t babysit me forever.

[batsymbol]

It's not babysitting. It's being partners.

( and he takes a moment to help himself to some of the food after he says that. )

Partners? [Jason pauses and frowns at Bruce.]

[batsymbol]

Isn't that what we are?

( batman and... whatever jason wants to refer to himself as. )

Yeah. I mean. My Bruce never called me that.

[He knows that this Bruce hates the comparison, but Jason kind of has to.]

[batsymbol]

I'm sorry he didn't.

( as he says that, he gently lets a hand rest there on jason's shoulder before it slips away and he lets himself get back to his food. )

[Jason nods as Bruce reaches for his shoulder. Partners. That sounds about right.]

( he can't speak for the other version of himself that jason knew, lived, and worked with... but he can try and do better than that version... even if he stumbles a little along the way in doing so. there's still a lot he keeps to himself — that he doesn't show to damian or jason because they don't need to see or hear it... that and bruce is simply notorious for shouldering it all himself, no matter his age. )

We'll figure it out. Whatever the mission is.

Y’know, if my arm was broken back home, he’d fuckin’ bench me.

[Jason looks up from his food to regard Bruce with a firm, but slightly angry look.]

I want to say it was in your best interest until you got better.

( but, again. he can't speak for that version of himself. )

Fuck that. I want to be a part of the mission.

[Jason shakes his head.]

[batsymbol]

( as he thought. )

Let's just see what it is first.

Don’t bench me, Bruce.

[Jason is firm in his response.]

[batsymbol]

( taking another bite, he eyes jason curiously then. )

Would you try and bench me? If it was for my own good?

Not my call.

[Jason frowns at Bruce.]

[batsymbol]

So you'd let me go out there if I was seriously injured?

( and he's still looking to jason curiously. )

Not my fucking call. [Jason shrugs.]

[batsymbol]

( quiet, he finishes off the rest of his food there before he reaches over for a slow sip of water from the glass. )

Thanks again for this. ( a nod to the empty bowl. ) I'll try to be a bit better at this.

[Jason has the sense that his sentiment it being ignored. He digs into hid food and doesn’t respond.]

( silence still lingering there between them, he looks over to jason for a moment before he's going about putting his empty bowl in the sink, standing there. thinking. )

I'm not the best at accepting help from others.

[Jason finishes his bowl pretty quickly as well, but lingers at the table so he doesn't run into Bruce on the way to the sink.]

Me neither.

[batsymbol]

( he's not sure what to make of that — that jason is so much like him. is it good? is it bad? he... doesn't know. there at the sink, he turns — looks to jason — then gestures for him to bring his bowl over to take care of. )

I'm always here if you do... need help, I mean.

I know. You answered the ping. [He carries the bowl over to Bruce, still frowning.]
