( he watches the way jason stirs and stands there, mulling over what to say. )

[Bruce has said it more than once to Jason, but there are days when Jason remembers feeling like a burden to the Titans, to his Bruce and it still translates over to his time in Etraya.]

Yeah. [He reaches in to grab a piece of broccoli to try. It's hard not to think of the Titans in a tower like this.]

( at that, he gently places a hand on jason's shoulder and offers him a quiet squeeze of support. )

I'm glad at least one of us is capable of cooking. Feel like you'd just end up with canned... food... more often than not if left up to me. Well... maybe not that bad, but. Definitely frozen meals.

Hey when you live on the streets of Gotham, you gotta make whatever you find work for you.

[He chews the bit of broccoli before nodding. It's close to being done.]

Frozen meals is better than what my Bruce could do. He just let me order out most of the time after Alfie died.

( his gaze drops in thought at that. he'd nearly lost alfred himself when he'd left here for however long he'd been gone. a blip in his existence both here and back within gotham, it seems. he knows that day will come for him — that no amount of money and nothing within his own personal power will be able to stop alfred from one day passing away, but. he doesn't like to think about it — it's too soon.

after a moment when he realizes he's fallen quiet, he looks over to jason. )

How much of a fan of dessert are you?

[Jason notices the quiet but doesn’t comment on it. He pulls the stir fry off the stove and sets it on a trivet before he returns to grab the rice.]

Depends on the desert.

[batsymbol]

Not really one to keep much of that on hand.

( sad but true. )

You think it's ready now?

[copsormasks]

Should be.

[Jason moves to grab some utensils. He holds out a fork to Bruce.]

Try it.

[batsymbol]

( taking the fork in hand, he goes about giving the food a taste that jason had done up for them and, with a slow nod, he looks back to him. )

It's good.

( better than anything he could do, honestly. )

Yeah, sure. [Jason shirks the thanks as he spoons out some rice for both of them before sliding the rice to Bruce.]

Put it with rice.

( he does just that, puts the rest of it with the rice and goes to the fridge then to grab them something to drink. opting for water, he fills up two glasses from the jug for them and sets one down for jason, the other kept nearby for himself. )

Another mission should be starting up in a couple weeks or so.

But I’m not— [He’s not fully healed and is just about to get a normal cast for his arm.]

The fuck am I supposed to do?

We'll have to see what sort of mission it is to begin with.

( he knows jason can't sit it out and likely wouldn't even if he could, knowing him. )

I'll stay by you.

You can’t stay with me the whole time.

[Jason frowns as he scoops stir fry into his bowl.]

[batsymbol]

It depends on what sort of mission it is.

( they'd done just fine with the last one after all... in terms of being together that is. )

[Jason shoves a piece of broccoli into his mouth.]

You can’t babysit me forever.

[batsymbol]

It's not babysitting. It's being partners.

( and he takes a moment to help himself to some of the food after he says that. )

Partners? [Jason pauses and frowns at Bruce.]

[batsymbol]

Isn't that what we are?

( batman and... whatever jason wants to refer to himself as. )

Yeah. I mean. My Bruce never called me that.

[He knows that this Bruce hates the comparison, but Jason kind of has to.]

[batsymbol]

I'm sorry he didn't.

( as he says that, he gently lets a hand rest there on jason's shoulder before it slips away and he lets himself get back to his food. )

[Jason nods as Bruce reaches for his shoulder. Partners. That sounds about right.]

( he can't speak for the other version of himself that jason knew, lived, and worked with... but he can try and do better than that version... even if he stumbles a little along the way in doing so. there's still a lot he keeps to himself — that he doesn't show to damian or jason because they don't need to see or hear it... that and bruce is simply notorious for shouldering it all himself, no matter his age. )

We'll figure it out. Whatever the mission is.

Y’know, if my arm was broken back home, he’d fuckin’ bench me.

[Jason looks up from his food to regard Bruce with a firm, but slightly angry look.]

I want to say it was in your best interest until you got better.

( but, again. he can't speak for that version of himself. )
