[Jason grins over at her, so bright and affectionate that he can't help himself.]

Hey, I wanted to ask you something else. If that's cool?

Okay, yea. That's cool.

[Chrissy smiles too as she turns to face him. He'd mentioned earlier that he had something he wanted to ask, and it seemed unlikely that he'd want to come all the way over here to ask for a movie marathon, so she's definitely curious.]

[Jason bobs on his heels for a moment or two as he tries to think of the best way to ask. He opens his mouth, stops. Opens it again, stops, and then decides to just go for it.]

I, uh, I really like you Chrissy. Was wondering if you'd want to go on a date some time? Like you and me, romantically?

[He sounds like an idiot and he's so sure that she's going to reject him that he goes ahead and starts to pivot.]

I mean, if you don't want to, I'm cool still being friends.

I really like you too. And I really want to go on a date with you.

[Sometimes, Chrissy is kind of a coward. And sometimes, she finds herself struggling to say the things she wants to say without sounding ridiculous. Not telling Jason how she felt sooner had more to do with thinking he probably needed a friend more than he needed a girl with a crush than any sort of worry that he might not feel the same way. Saying it now feels like a relief.]

I wanted to say something sooner, but I know you have a lot going on... and I didn't want you to feel obligated to say something if you didn't feel the same way.

[Jason expects the worst. It's part of who he is at this point. As Chrissy responds in kind though, he realizes the worst isn't happening.]

Wait, really? [Jason looks genuinely surprised as a slow grin takes over his face.]

Really.

[He seems surprised, though, which is surprising on its own, because Chrissy feels like she's been pretty obvious about it despite not actually saying anything before.]

Actually, I can think of a couple times that I thought might be dates.

Well I mean. [Jason tries the best way to phrase this.] I thought so too, but. You're like put together and really fucking pretty and funny and like way out of my league.

[And he swang for the fences with this one.]

Yeah. Can I come over every night for our Halloween Countdown?

You're really sweet for thinking that. I was kind of a mess at home, but being here has helped a lot. And for the record, I'm not out of your league.

[It is kind of funny that they've both been assuming that the other wouldn't like them, though.]

I was kind of assuming that you were going to.

[Jason has only really dated one person before and that ended so, so terribly. However, he has a good feeling about him and Chrissy and it all starts with tonight.]

So what's the movie for tonight, huh? Extra spooky? [So he can put his arm around her maaaaybe.]

Mmm... well, I hadn't really decided what movies to watch yet. I guess we're gonna have to figure that out if we're doing it for the next several nights.

[She also hasn't gotten around to getting any of the snacks yet, but she can probably come up with something.]

You can pick one for now.

[Jason nods and steps in a little closer.]

How about Saw. You seen that one?

I don't think so. Is it really scary?

[The name isn't really helping her to picture what it could be about, so...]

It's about two guys trapped in a bathroom with, well, saws.

[Jason shrugs.]

I have so many questions.

[The first, probably, being who came up with that.]

We can watch it if you want.

Oh, you will still have questions after you see it, too. There's like 10 movies in the series.

[Jason shrugs again.]

I'm cool with it if you are.

That's so many movies!

[And since this is the first time she's even hearing about the first one, Chrissy feels like it's safe to assume that they came out after her time.]

Okay, let's do it. How bad can it be?

Yeah. Let's do it. [Jason is on cloud nine for what feels like the first time in a very long time. The fact that he gets to feel like this is amazing. He heads over to the couch, grinning at her.] C'mon.

Will you hold me if I get scared?

[It's not something she's anticipating, but it's hard to say for sure based on the way he'd described the movie. So she's feeling pretty optimistic as she follows him over to sit on the couch.]

[Jason grins at her and nods.] Well I gotta protect you, right?

[He settles on the couch near the middle and leaves plenty of room for her to cozy up next to him.]

That's right. [Chrissy smiles and cuddles right up to his side.]

I expect you to protect me from the big, scary bathroom movie.

[Jason absolutely cannot wait to 'protect' Chrissy from the evils of the SAW bathroom. He may or may not be preemptively wrapping his good arm around her shoulders.]

It's really scary. I'll protect you.

[Aside from his description, Chrissy has absolutely no idea what to expect with this movie, so she's just going to take his word on how scary it is.]

You know... you can hold me even if I don't get scared.

[But she's probably going to get scared.]

[All thoughts of movies goes right out the brain as Chrissy mentions holding her. He turns his head to ask for details, but when he does, he realizes just how close they are.] I can do that.

Good, because I really want you to. I just didn't want to be pushy if you weren't ready for that. [Because it's kind of a big thing, even after admitting they like each other, and she also hasn't really spent that much time wondering about his dating history.]

[Jason carefully loops an arm around her as the opening credits to SAW begin. He settles his hand on her shoulder and nudges her ever so slightly.]

I want to, so that's pretty convenient.
