[Whenever Bruce gets back the kitchen is indeed in one piece. Jason hears the elevator and lights what are far too many candles on the cake and waits for Bruce to come up.]

( spending time with clark was short and sweet — all he could really maintain, but. well. maybe alfred would be proud of him for making an effort. it's a little after the kryptonian leaves that he makes his way for the kitchen and, seeing the candles lit, he stands there in the doorway, dressed in black slacks and a black turtleneck, hands in his pockets. )

[Jason replies before he starts the familiar refrain of,] Happy birthday to you~

( when was the last time he had something like this done? it's... awkward? sweet? unfamiliar in a way and it makes him look down, smile just barely there on his lips before it turns a little sheepish. he's not sure how to feel about being here another year in etraya and there being so little he's accomplished or has discovered about this place, but. he's here, so. he just tries to take it one day at a time.

looking up, he offers jason a gentle smile, wanting to show him the appreciation for his going to such trouble and being here. still. )

You know I'm going to have to order you a cake for yours.

[Jason is not a great singer, by any measure, but what he lacks in skill, he makes up with enthusiasm. He, too, is pretty sure that Bruce hasn't had this kind of thing in a while, even if the song is awkward and the cake is lumpy. He finishes and then gesture to the cake.]

Yeah, sure.

[Not even Chrissy knows his birthday. His Bruce was never around to celebrate and the Titans ignored it, so why bother.]

Blow out the candles before the fire alarm goes off.

( he's pretty sure that's not how that works, but. he obliges and comes over to do just that: blow the candles out. does he make a wish? who's to say? either way, he straightens up some and looks the cake over a little more genuinely. it really doesn't matter how it tastes to him. it's the effort put into it when he'd just as well forget this day was even a thing. )

I think Alfred would be proud.
