( he finishes up with the "groceries" here and then leans there against the counter on his hands, shoulders hunched some as he does. )

Can't complain. [Jason continues flipping through the book before shutting it and tucking it and the other books under his arm.] Thanks, Bruce. I mean it.

[There's a lot Jason needs to thank Bruce for, but that's not for today.]

And the hospital said I might get a normal sling in a week.

[Someone is so ready to be out of this mummy cast strapped to his chest.]

Something about the pins and rods in there.

( he simply nods in regards to the thanks, even if it's slow and gentle. )

Sounds about right. Given how long you've been in that.

( a glance over to jason, he drops his gaze and lets his thoughts drift for a moment. )

Are you having your friend over?

Yeah they seemed pretty sure it'll heal right. [Which is excellent news for someone who prides himself in his ability to fight.]

Not tonight. Just you and me.

[Chrissy's almost nightly visits have helped immensely with keeping Jason's spirits high, but even then it's nice to just have Bruce around.]

( the smile he gives jason is gentle and almost non-existent, but. it's there. if you know how to read bruce. so, with that, he gives him a nod and pushes himself up from the counter. )

What are you in the mood for tonight?

( in terms of food, he means. good thing he did a run and all. )

[Jason tries to school his grin at seeing that barely there smile. Seems like Bruce isn't quite sick of him yet.]

Got any Indian?

( uhh... )

( that's about as good as it's going to get, jason. )

Rice is good. [Jason gives a one-armed shrug.] Any stuff to go on top of it? Curry, sauce...?

( sorry, jason. he is absolutely not creative in the kitchen. except— )

Think there's a frozen dinner that's a stir fry teriyaki thing.

[Jason heads to the freezer to pull out the stir fry. He reads the ingredient list and the instructions before looking back to Bruce.]

We could put this on top of the rice, I'm pretty sure.

[The number of years Jason has lived without a kitchen would surprise most.]

Got a pan?

moving away from the counter, he takes a bit of a look around and, after pulling open a few things, he finds one, setting it down on the stovetop. it's good that jason knows how to get by with all this. his own privilege and having grown up in the tower with help definitely shows in situations more... normal. )

Clark's here. ( a beat. ) Superman. He's not the one I knew before though.

[Jason sets the stir fry and the rice next to the stove and watches Bruce search for the pan. After it's set on the stovetop, Jason uses a pair of scissors to open the bag, but pauses at the mention of Superman.

He has mixed feelings about Supers. He likes Conner, but he doubts he's anything like Superman.]

Okay. [It's non-committal. A lack of an answer. If Superman is like his Bruce in any way, there's going to be a lot of blaming.]

I'm just letting you know.

( he looks around for plates... or bowls? what are they going to eat this in? anyways— )

I ran into him during the last mission. Seems he's made his way here. I haven't reached out. Just kept an eye on him here and there.

Look. [Jason pours the stir fry into the pan and starts putting water into the rice to cook it too.]

I don't really get along with other capes. [Obvious statement is obvious.] But from what I know he'll probably buddy up with either you or him at some point.

[He stirs the stir fry, shaking his head.] I'm serious, he could probably get even my Bruce to be friends. Just don't involve me.

( there's history there for sure. whether or not jason wants to get into it is his choice. )

I don't think he'll come around here. I can't see why he would. He didn't know me.

Supers love people. They're like golden retrievers. He'll be around.

[Jason's expression sours as he stirs.]

( the thought of that has his face scrunch up some. hm. )

I guess we'll see.

I'm just saying. [Jason looks up from the stir fry.] When he shows up, and he will, I don't want to be involved.

You don't have to be.

( his voice is soft but supportive. )

He doesn't have to come here either, if he does think to seek me out.

Well, good. [Well there's some relief. Last thing he needs is another cape invading his space. It's enough there's an entire belfry, why do there need to be flying capes, too? He stirs with a touch more anger, regardless.

What the fuck is happening that there's so many masks around?]

( he watches the way jason stirs and stands there, mulling over what to say. )

[Bruce has said it more than once to Jason, but there are days when Jason remembers feeling like a burden to the Titans, to his Bruce and it still translates over to his time in Etraya.]

Yeah. [He reaches in to grab a piece of broccoli to try. It's hard not to think of the Titans in a tower like this.]

( at that, he gently places a hand on jason's shoulder and offers him a quiet squeeze of support. )

I'm glad at least one of us is capable of cooking. Feel like you'd just end up with canned... food... more often than not if left up to me. Well... maybe not that bad, but. Definitely frozen meals.

Hey when you live on the streets of Gotham, you gotta make whatever you find work for you.

[He chews the bit of broccoli before nodding. It's close to being done.]

Frozen meals is better than what my Bruce could do. He just let me order out most of the time after Alfie died.

( his gaze drops in thought at that. he'd nearly lost alfred himself when he'd left here for however long he'd been gone. a blip in his existence both here and back within gotham, it seems. he knows that day will come for him — that no amount of money and nothing within his own personal power will be able to stop alfred from one day passing away, but. he doesn't like to think about it — it's too soon.

after a moment when he realizes he's fallen quiet, he looks over to jason. )
