( he leaves it at that, arriving back at the tower after a good thirty minutes or so. the car is parked, the bags are taken out of the back, and he's making his way up the elevator with them in tow as he glances down. quiet, save for the heavy sigh that escapes his lips as eyes gently fall shut. damian's being distant — shutting him out and he... doesn't know how to handle that. if he even should. his father is here after all, regardless of whatever their relationship may currently be. at the end of the day, he's not his father — never was — but merely a stand-in for him until he was reunited with him. he wonders if he's the same to jason. when jason will grow distant and shut him out, too, and how heavy it will make his heart feel.

the doors open and he shoulders the gate up, bags in hand as he makes his way towards the kitchen where he sets them down. there's... well... stuff. by no means has he become a culinary expert in the year and some months he's been here in etraya, but. he's improved from canned fruit salad and instant noodles at least. now he makes sure to grab instant rice and frozen dinners. alfred might judge him for it, but. he's not here and he's doing the best he can.

such as unpacking everything there, including a few classic horror novels and a couple 80s looking sci-fi movies. )

[Jason hears the elevator moving and climbs up from the couch where he'd been watching Friday the 13th for the nth time. The bruising and swelling on his face is much improved. The white lines of stitches and scars remain, but even those are not as stark as before. He still has problems with vertigo, with concentrating and reading, but it's a massive step up from nearly dying in that alley.

He doesn't like to talk about that part much.

Instead, he focuses on his left arm, which is still firmly strapped to his chest for a couple more weeks. Something about the pins and rods in it need to properly set before they can be removed. Stupid doctors.

As Bruce comes in, Jason also enters the kitchen. He reaches down to help put things away.]

( because woof, the things he picked up to eat — when he remembered to — were not the greatest.

the frozen dinners are grabbed and taken to put in the freezer, a few bags of snacks left there on the counter to be put away next to the instant rice and non-perishable items that can be put in the cupboards. a glance over to jason, he nods to the books there next to the couple of movies. )

Managed to find those.

[Jason puts away what he's able and when Bruce mentions to the books, he immediately pounces on them.]

Oh fuck yeah.

[He pulls one from the stack and flips through the pages. For someone who gets into so many fights, he's quite the reader.]

Where'd you find these?

Did a bit of digging around.

( he finishes up with the "groceries" here and then leans there against the counter on his hands, shoulders hunched some as he does. )

Wasn't sure how you felt about comics.

Can't complain. [Jason continues flipping through the book before shutting it and tucking it and the other books under his arm.] Thanks, Bruce. I mean it.

[There's a lot Jason needs to thank Bruce for, but that's not for today.]

And the hospital said I might get a normal sling in a week.

[Someone is so ready to be out of this mummy cast strapped to his chest.]

( he simply nods in regards to the thanks, even if it's slow and gentle. )

Sounds about right. Given how long you've been in that.

( a glance over to jason, he drops his gaze and lets his thoughts drift for a moment. )

Are you having your friend over?

Yeah they seemed pretty sure it'll heal right. [Which is excellent news for someone who prides himself in his ability to fight.]

Not tonight. Just you and me.

[Chrissy's almost nightly visits have helped immensely with keeping Jason's spirits high, but even then it's nice to just have Bruce around.]

( the smile he gives jason is gentle and almost non-existent, but. it's there. if you know how to read bruce. so, with that, he gives him a nod and pushes himself up from the counter. )

What are you in the mood for tonight?

( in terms of food, he means. good thing he did a run and all. )

[Jason tries to school his grin at seeing that barely there smile. Seems like Bruce isn't quite sick of him yet.]

( that's about as good as it's going to get, jason. )

Rice is good. [Jason gives a one-armed shrug.] Any stuff to go on top of it? Curry, sauce...?

Think there's a frozen dinner that's a stir fry teriyaki thing.

[Jason heads to the freezer to pull out the stir fry. He reads the ingredient list and the instructions before looking back to Bruce.]

We could put this on top of the rice, I'm pretty sure.

[The number of years Jason has lived without a kitchen would surprise most.]

moving away from the counter, he takes a bit of a look around and, after pulling open a few things, he finds one, setting it down on the stovetop. it's good that jason knows how to get by with all this. his own privilege and having grown up in the tower with help definitely shows in situations more... normal. )

Clark's here. ( a beat. ) Superman. He's not the one I knew before though.

[Jason sets the stir fry and the rice next to the stove and watches Bruce search for the pan. After it's set on the stovetop, Jason uses a pair of scissors to open the bag, but pauses at the mention of Superman.

He has mixed feelings about Supers. He likes Conner, but he doubts he's anything like Superman.]

Okay. [It's non-committal. A lack of an answer. If Superman is like his Bruce in any way, there's going to be a lot of blaming.]

I'm just letting you know.

( he looks around for plates... or bowls? what are they going to eat this in? anyways— )

I ran into him during the last mission. Seems he's made his way here. I haven't reached out. Just kept an eye on him here and there.

Look. [Jason pours the stir fry into the pan and starts putting water into the rice to cook it too.]

I don't really get along with other capes. [Obvious statement is obvious.] But from what I know he'll probably buddy up with either you or him at some point.

[He stirs the stir fry, shaking his head.] I'm serious, he could probably get even my Bruce to be friends. Just don't involve me.

( there's history there for sure. whether or not jason wants to get into it is his choice. )

I don't think he'll come around here. I can't see why he would. He didn't know me.
